Off Page Optimization - Directory Submission

Directory Submission

We just knew about whats press release, how to write it, few tips, how to publish them, where to publish them...

Well !!!! publishers may be scratching their with your submitted press releases (just kidding !!) mean while lets know what all about is this "directory submission"??

So basically what is a "directory". We can define a "directory" as An organized collection of links and for webmasters its one of the best way to get back links and link popularity.

Lets Define it now : Directory Submission is the process of submitting a website to the web directory in the relevant category with appropriate website url, title, description and keywords.

So Why you need to do this directory submission : Well of course few back links, other than that you get easily targeted customers which increases your site traffic, fair chances of getting listed in search engines which helps you in increasing your traffic, backlinks, search page rank and also in Google's page rank.

Its sounds good so How to go about it : All you need is....
URL of your website(needless to say a working and live website) EX: http://www.example.com/

Title of your website : Attractive and meaning full title of the website.

Description : 2 or 3 sentence which describes about your website.

Keywords : keywords of the website.

Okay.. your website url, title, description and keywords are ready and wanna submit them...before that lets consider few things

For our convinence Directories can be classified as

  • Paid submissions
  • local directory submissions
  • free submissions
  • deep link submissions
  • niche specific submissions
  • Reciprocal submissions
Paid Submissions : Few directories asks website owners to pay few amount of money to add your link on their site. For EX: http://dir.yahoo.com/ Most of these directories work really good in giving back links but of course you need to pay for that ;).

Local Directory Submissions : As the name suggest these are the directories which are concerned to particular places for ex: http://www.local.com/ . It also brings good back links.

Free Submissions : For these directories you need not have to pay or back link their website. But you may wait for few hours to months to get listed in these directories. EX : www.dmoz.org

Deep Link Directory Submissions : Hey wait lets see what is "deep link" well the links pointing to other places other than a websites home page. For ex: www.prosems.com is a website which points to home page and www.prosems.com/_services is a deep link.

Niche specific Directory Submission : These are the directories which are related to your website. For ex : If you have a web site related to instruments then niche specific directory would be http://www.thaiinstrumentation.com/. I agree that its difficult to find these directories but worth to submit in them.

Reciprocal Directory Submission : These directories expect a link back in return to list your site.

You may find thousands of directory submission sites its only YOU have to decide on what you need to put your quality and quality time on each submission.

There are few tools which makes work easier but again be careful !!! . I personally wont recommend any tool or company for this services i prefer to go for manual directory submission or semi automatic submissions.

This is the few basic info regarding directory submission. More info regarding the same..will be upcoming.. and dont forget to comment on this.. :)
